Well we bought it from Warren Evans who are a leading environmental and sustainable business and winners of endless awards including The Sunday Times "Best Green Companies" (4 years on the trot), The Observer Ethical Award for Best Retailer (3 years), a Green Apple award and more.
They make their beds to order using FSC woods and the best-in-class sustainable manufacturing. We went for a king-sized bed which has that extra space that makes it just that much easier to spread out and relax. For the mattress we stuck with Warren Evans and decided on a Memory Foam model: ultimately this was dictated by the winding staircase needing a large mattress that could bend. There are more sustainable mattresses but they would be damaged getting them in place. The upside is that the comfort is clearly exceptional, and with the organic cotton covers it is a place "to be" rather than a place just "to sleep".
Staying at Gorge View Cottage means one or two people are going to spend around a third of their time in the bed, so just as well it is this good. As it happens we have yet to get a chance to try it out ourselves, something we'll fix over the quieter winter season.
