Local produce and wholefoods
For the latest information on local food from the producer to the restaurant table check out the Somerset Food website
We support local and ethical businesses, and much of the equipment, fixtures and fittings in the cottage have been bought with this in mind.
The consumables for the welcome pack and optional extras packs are supplied by:
Other shops in Cheddar stocking organic, local and fair trade produce:
Sainsbury A new medium supermarket, replacing the previous Budgens, which includes a Pharmacy, local butchers and Subway eatery. They stock some organic and fair trade fresh produce and groceries (due to open February 2016)
Hansford's Deli just around the corner and re-launched supplies a range of locally sourced quality produce and products, and serves a mean coffee and cream tea too.
Cheddar Farmers Market: every 3rd Friday of the month outside the Cheddar Garden Centre (on the Draycott road)
Various shops in the gorge sell local cheeses, ales, preserves, confectionery etc.
Somerset Local Food Direct is a service where you can order online local fresh produce (vegetables, meat, dairy products etc) and have it delivered to the cottage for your arrival, or for when you leave to have stuff to cook with when you get home.
There may well be seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs direct from Gorge View garden. A current price list of available produce will be in the information pack in the cottage on your arrival.
Shops further afield:
Axbridge Farmers Market takes place in the historic market square on the first Saturday of each month. Axbridge an easy cycle, drive or walk away (and buses go there too)
Wells: The Good Earth, whole food shop and excellent cafe.
Wells market on a Wednesday morning in the market square has a great organic vegetable stall, and various other stalls selling local produce.
Glastonbury: Earthfare, towards the top of Glastonbury High Street, also incorporating a wholefood cafe.
Bristol: Wildoats and the Better Food Company (both in Clifton, and Better Foods also in St. Werburgs) are two excellent wholefoods shops.
