Charities
We feel that it is important to share what success we have with the local community. For every booking we have taken since the beginning we have put £10 towards our charitable fund and we currently share that with two local important charities that support the environment and wildlife. This is something we care about and we know many if not all our guests care about too.
Prickles Hedgehog Rescue
This very local charity is based in Cheddar and has been running since 2007. From very humble beginnings it has grown and now cares for about 800 to 1000 orphaned or injured hedgehogs every year. Hedgehogs are getting scarcer in the UK, mostly through habitat reduction and traffic increases. Those found during winter need to be cared for until they can be released in the spring. Our eldest daughter Stephanie started volunteering with them at the beginning whilst in her last years at school. Since then she (and sometimes we) have helped at various fund raising events. They were the first charity we chose to support when Gorge View Cottage started and to date (January 2016) you, our guests, have raised over £2,000 for this brilliant hardworking charity.

Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
The Mendip Hills AONB works hard to protect, steward and promote the Mendips Hills with all its beautiful diversity of landscape and habitat. It includes many geological marvels like Cheddar Gorge, Burrington Combe and Ebbor Gorge, and the caves at Cheddar and Wookey Hole. Then there are the many Wildlife Reserves managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust, and the Open Access land on the top of the hills with wonderful views to Exmoor and the coast. In partnership with Somerset Community Foundation they have set up the Mendip Hills Fund to support local projects that conserve and enhance the special qualities of the Mendip Hills and benefit the local communities. We are pleased to now also support this new initiative.
