This area is a walkers and nature lover's paradise. Enjoy the many stunning walks in and around the Gorge and Mendip Hills. Three nature reserves are within easy walking distance of the cottage.

Cycling
We have secure facilities for cyclists if you bring your own bike.
There are many places within an easy day trip from Cheddar on the bus. Here are a few ideas:
Of course, you don't have to be active! Enjoy your favourite morning drink in bed, whilst gazing out at the beautiful gorge. Relax with a book or DVD in the cottage, enjoy the afternoon sun on the patio. Or take a leisurely stroll and be inspired by our working permaculture garden, which is also a place to wind down and connect with nature---and yes, the garden also has a beautiful view of Cheddar Gorge.

Well of course the caves themselves are not affected unless there has been massive rain in the area. In village we do have a few options that might help:

Cycling

- Cycle from Cheddar along the traffic free Strawberry Line, and have some refreshments at the Strawberry Line Cafe at Yatton (10 miles)
- Or go on the Strawberry Line to Sandford and visit Thatcher's Cider HQ farm shop or their own pub newly renovated The Railway Inn (6 miles)
- It is a pleasant mostly traffic free and flat two mile cycle along the reservoir to the medieval town of Axbridge with its pubs, restaurants and museum
- Cheddar Bikes also hire out electric bikes and that can mean going up and down the Mendips or as far as Weston-Super-Mare and back is a doddle.
- Visit the Sustrans website for more cycling ideas and information.
- Check out Bike Hike, a web site that lets you plot cycle routes complete with elevation detail so you can know the gradients you'll face.
- The Somerset County Council Moving Forward website has a lot of useful cycling information, including a series of 20 downloadable walking and cycling maps (including one of Cheddar and Axbridge) to help you to explore the County using a network of off and on-road routes.
There are many places within an easy day trip from Cheddar on the bus. Here are a few ideas:
- The City of Wells, famous for its Cathedral, has a thriving and bustling high street, and a market held on Wednesdays and Saturdays where you can buy anything from beautiful jewellery to plants, organic fruit and vegetables, olives, books, pottery, pictures and much, much more. For a rainy day option there is the cinema. You can get to Wells on the 126 bus route, leaving from just around the corner from the cottage at Tweentown.
- From Wells you can take a 2 mile bus trip on the 670 route to the famous Wookey Hole Caves
- The market town and spiritual centre of Glastonbury famous for it's Abbey and Tor takes 30 minutes on the 668 bus. There is a market in the town hall on Tuesday mornings. Visit the Rural Life Museum, or the peaceful Chalice Well Gardens or wander along the eclectic high street with its diversity of shops and cafes.
- Take the ten minute 668 bus journey to the stylish village of Wedmore for lunch at The Swan, a popular, multi-award winning local village pub and restaurant. Go for a post-lunch walk along paths and through fields, taking in views of the Mendip Hills.
- Clarks Village, an outlet shopping centre in Street is 40 mins away on the 668 bus
- Weston-Super-Mare is 50 minutes away on the 126 bus route. This is the closest beach, however at low tide, you can only just see the sea across vast mud flats, so check out the tide times before you go if you want to see the sea. Alternatively, visit the Grand Pier, shops, cafes and bars. There is also an Odeon cinema.
