Nothing perverse about the subject: this is one of the lovely names we get around here. Recent guests really rated the walk up to Velvet Bottom which is above the gorge on the top of the Mendips. An hour's walk - give or take - and walking is the only way to it, no roads run through (or close by).
The 43 acres of higgledy piggledy landscape is the clue that this is an old lead mining area now thickly grassed over with some woodland areas and shrubs. Rabbits keep the grass reasonably well cropped.
